Navigating CBAM Obligations

Preparing for CBAM Compliance Amid Resource Constraints

This was a situation encountered by many companies operating in the EU. Under the guidance of the EMEA Trade Manager, the company had become aware of the importance of assessing its exposure to the new CBAM regulation in Europe, in order to establish the necessary structure for reporting obligations. However, the company did not have the necessary resources and needed a trustworthy partner to collect data and also to raise awareness among all business units of the importance of the issue.

A Data-Driven Approach to CBAM Reporting and Compliance

Customs Support Group’s Advisory Team intervention centered on data management and reporting excellence. We initiated a comprehensive data gathering exercise, focusing on the collection of carbon emissions data relevant to the CBAM requirements. This phase involved close collaboration with the company’s operations across various EU countries to ensure all necessary data was accurately captured and compiled.

Leveraging the collected data, we assisted in the preparation and submission of the first CBAM reports for the company. This involved not only ensuring the accuracy of the data but also navigating the specific reporting requirements and deadlines of each EU country involved.

Ensuring Compliance and Building a Scalable CBAM Framework

With CSG’s assistance, the mining company successfully navigated the complexities of CBAM compliance, laying a strong foundation for future regulatory challenges and contributing to its long-term sustainability goals.

The timely and accurate submission of CBAM reports across the seven EU countries ensured the company’s compliance with new regulatory requirements, mitigating the risk of penalties.

Furthermore, the company did not need to hire staff or mobilise its already busy existing internal teams. This allowed the company to be agile and to successfully scale their CBAM management process.
