Absolutely. AEO certification solidifies your status as a trusted partner within supply chains. The process helps you to enhance your compliance and reliability, and in turn, provides you with a competitive advantage.
You gain full control over your customs processes and optimise your cross-border operations, improving your security and efficiency.
Becoming AEO-certified helps your business to comply with current and upcoming legislation changes.
Businesses with AEO status can better follow the enhanced data and security demands of the upcoming EU Customs Reform, and comfortably navigate the transition to the new Trust and Check (T&C) trader status.
If you are looking to be more cost-efficient, reduce your risk, and open up new trading possibilities, then AEO certification is a relevant option for you.
There are two types of AEO certification:
Authorised Economic Operator Customs (AEOC):
This type of AEO licence is issued to businesses that prove customs compliance, appropriate record keeping, and financial solvency.
AEOC is mostly used by brokers and traders who do not physically possess the goods, but manage movements and clearances in the supply chain.
Some of the benefits of AEOC are:
- Fewer documentation and physical customs checks
- Priority treatment at border control posts on selected shipments
- On request, customs can carry out their checks at specific locations
- Simplified customs declarations
- More notice on shipments selected for checks
Authorised Economic Operator Security (AEOS):
The Authorised Economic Operator Security (AEOS) license is issued to businesses that prove customs compliance, appropriate record keeping, financial solvency, and pass safety and security standards. This type of licence is for businesses which physically handle goods, adding another level of consideration.
Some benefits of AEOS are:
- Priority treatment at border control posts on selected shipments
- On request, customs can carry out their checks at specific locations
- More notice on shipments selected for checks
- Recognition of AEO licence by non-EU countries
Colloquially, businesses which hold both AEOC and AEOS are known to hold a full AEO licence (AEOF).
